As “Argo” director Ben Affleck preps his next movie “Live By Night” for Warners, the actor has begun negotiating to play the male lead in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl,” people familiar with the project told TheWrap.

Witherspoon is producing with her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea and Leslie Dixon. New Regency is co-financing “Gone Girl,” which could start production as soon as this fall.

Emily in Talks to Join Disney’s ‘Into the Woods’

Variety – Emily Blunt is finalizing a deal to join Disney’s musical “Into the Woods” that Rob Marshall will direct for the studio.

Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal also are in talks to join the film, which already has lined up Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.

Film is based on Stephen Sondheim’s 1987 Broadway musical. David Krane (“Chicago,” “Nine”) is the arranger on the film, which will rely on Sondheim’s original music.

Musical revolves around a childless baker and his wife who attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront the witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, they encounter Rapunzel, Cinderella, “Jack and the Beanstalk’s” Jack Little Red Riding Hood and other classic fairy tale characters.

Blunt would play the baker’s wife, the female lead in the film.

There is no production start date yet for the project, but with such a strong cast coming together a greenlight is imminent.

James Lapine penned the script, based on his book for the musical.

John DeLuca, who previously produced Marshall’s “Chicago” and “Nine,” will serve as producer on “Into the Woods.”

Disney declined to comment.

Blunt, who recently wrapped Doug Liman’s sci-fi actioner “All You Need Is Kill,” with Tom Cruise, that Warner Bros. will release next year, is repped by CAA and Ken McReddie Associates.
