Emily Blunt Launches #ThisBookClub

New initiative from the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction celebrates the modern day book club

Emily Blunt, Mary Portas and Sophie Ellis-Bextor have shared their favourite books written by women to launch the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction’s new campaign, #ThisBookClub.

Designed to celebrate the modern day book club and the way that novels encourage discussion and bring people together, it will see various events taking place across the country, including literary quiz evenings.

“This is a wonderful way to bring together books and readers, to celebrate twenty fabulous years of the prize and to share favourite novels past and present, with friends, readers and writers,” said novelist Kate Mosse, co-founder of the award and chair of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction board.

To launch the campaign, Baileys Prize asked three pairs of prominent women – actress Emily Blunt and her sister, the literary agent Felicity; writer Janet Ellis and her daughter, the singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor; and Mary Portas and her wife Melanie Rickey – to pick the books written by women that they would like to share with each other. Emily Blunt chose Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad to share with her sister Felicity, saying: “I just felt like my hair was blown back by it. I believe that a great book can change your life in a way that I don’t think cinema can – a book can resonate with you in such a way, it shifts you forever.” Felicity in turn chose Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life, explaining: “It’s a story of life’s infinite possibilities and the idea of many lives lived and [as an actress], my sister lives many lives!”

Emily To Appear On NBC’s Red Nose Day Special

Emily is set to appear on NBC’s Red Nose Day Special. The special will air on NBC on May 21.

NBC announced Thursday that it will air “Red Nose Day,” a live three-hour event to raise money for children living in poverty in both the U.S. and abroad.

The event will feature a number of A-list celebrities, videos produced by comedy site Funny or Die and musical performances from some of today’s biggest artists.

Celebrities slated to appear include: Will Ferrell; Jennifer Hudson; Jack Black; John Krasinski; Emily Blunt; Michelle Rodriguez; and Gwyneth Paltrow.

As previously announced, the money raised during Red Nose Day will fund programs that address the immediate needs of children and young people living in poverty in the U.S., Africa, Asia and Latin America. Charity partners include: Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Children’s Health Fund; Feeding America; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; the Global Fund; Lift; National Council of La Raza; National Urban League; Oxfam America; Save the Children; and United Way.

Richard Curtis is an executive producer for the NBC telecast, along with Hamish Hamilton and Ian Stewart of Done Dusted Productions. Henrietta Conrad and Lily Sobhani will also serve as executive producers, as will Mike Farah, Anna Wenger and Joe Farrell from Funny or Die. Hamilton is set to direct.

“Red Nose Day” will air on NBC on May 21 at 8 p.m./7c.

“Sicario” Selected For Cannes 2015!

The 2015 Cannes Film Festival unveiled the first part of their official selection earlier today. It was announced that Emily’s upcoming movie “Sicario” is selected for the competition of the festival which is very exciting news. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve and Emily stars alongside Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. The running time is 1h45 according to the official website. The festival runs from May 13-May 24.

Competition
“Sicario” (Denis Villeneuve, U.S.). The Canadian director is no stranger to Cannes, which screened his films “Cosmos” (1996, Directors’ Fortnight), “August 32nd on Earth” (1998, Un Certain Regard) and “Polytechnique” (2009, Directors’ Fortnight). Since then, Villeneuve has become one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood, and he cracks the competition for the first time with this crime drama starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Jon Bernthal, and set against the backdrop of the Mexican drug trade. Emily Joins ‘Animal Crackers’ Voice Cast

Emily has joined her husband John Krasinski in the voice cast of the animated movie ‘Animal Crackers’. The first production still featuring Emily’s character Zoe Huntington can be found in our gallery.

The UK star joins the Blue Dream Studios animation as the voice of Zoe Huntington alongside husband John Krasinksi.

Animal Crackers will also feature the previously attached Danny DeVito, Sylvester Stallone and Ian McKellen.

Krasinksi will play Blunt’s on-screen husband Owen Huntington, who along with his wife inherits a ramshackle circus and a mysterious box of Animal Crackers biscuits that turns people who eat them into animals.

Scott Christian Sava and Tony Bancroft co-direct and Sava co-wrote the script with Dean Lorey. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2016.

“When Emily and John came in and performed their first scenes of the movie together… it was magic,” said Sava.

“I can think of no other way of describing what they brought to the film. We had to literally go back and re-storyboard the sequences because they took us to places we never dreamed. Owen and Zoe came to life when Emily and John spoke”

Sava produces for Blue Dream Studios alongside George Lee and Marcus Englefield of Storyoscopic Films, Jamie Thomason and Leiming Guan.

Emily Featured On ‘Lip Sync Battle’

Spike TV has announced that Emily will be featured in Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle. Emily’s husband John Krasinski is one of the executive produces.

“Lip Sync Battle” fans have a reason to rejoice! Spike TV has greenlit eight more episodes of highly-anticipated new, original series, “Lip Sync Battle.” The series is based on the cultural phenomenon of lip sync battling seen by millions on television and online.

“Lip Sync Battle” debuts on Thursday, April 2 at 10:00pm ET/PT and features celebrities going head to head – lip-syncing the song of their choice – battling for the coolest bragging rights on the planet.

The featured performers for the new eight episodes include Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Justin Bieber, Queen Latifah, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Mike Tyson, and Terry Crews among others to be announced shortly.

Emily Closes ‘Huntsman’ Deal

Rumors about Emily joining ‘The Huntsman’ spinoff have been circulating for weeks now. As we reported back in January Emily was eying the villain role but various media outlets are now reporting Emily’s deal finally closed. Jessica Chastain also joined the cast.

Jessica Chastain has closed a deal to join Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron in Universal’s “The Huntsman.”

Emily Blunt is also set to join the cast. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing the pic, with Joe Roth producing and Palak Patel exec producing.

Plot details are vague beyond that the film reveals how the fates of two characters, the Huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White. Details on Chastain’s character are also vague.

Frank Darabont, who was previously attached to direct before falling off, wrote the current draft of the screenplay, with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The pic is set to bow on April 22, 2016. Universal’s vice president of production Maradith Frenkel and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for the studio.

Emily Blunt Drama ‘Sicario’ Set for September Release

Lionsgate has set drug trafficking drama “Sicario,” starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Jon Bernthal, for a Sept. 18 limited release followed by a wide release on Sept. 25.

“Prisoners” helmer Denis Villeneuve directed from a script by Taylor Sheridan.

Producers are Basil Iwanyk, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, Thad Luckinbill and Edward McDonnell. Production companies are Black Label Media and Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures.

The story, set in the lawless border area between the U.S. and Mexico, centers on an idealistic FBI agent (portrayed by Blunt) being exposed to the brutal world of international drug trafficking by members of a government task force — played by Brolin and Del Toro — who have enlisted her in their plan to take out a Mexican cartel boss.

“Sicario” is the fourth wide release title set for Sept. 25 after Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania 2,” Relativity’s horror thriller “The Disappointments Room” and Warner Bros. comedy “The Intern.”
