Emily Blunt Joins Dubai Film Festival Jury

The actress will help decide the Middle East festival’s annual IWC Filmmaker Award

The Dubai International Film Festival has named Emily Blunt as a member of the jury that will decide the IWC Filmmaker Award, the festival’s annual competition held in collaboration with Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen.

The competition — now in its third year — offers $100,000 to a Middle East filmmaker to help develop and produce his or her script. It will be awarded during the upcoming Dubai International Film Festival, which kicks off Dec. 10.

“It will be fascinating to see the scripts and discover forthcoming films that will undoubtedly touch the hearts and minds of audiences in the region and internationally,” said Blunt.

Last year, Cate Blanchett headed the IWC Filmmaker Award jury, with the prize going to Emirati director Waleed Al Shehhi for his project Dolphins.

Emily Going for Lead Actress for “Into The Woods”

Awards Daily is reporting that Disney is planning on going for lead actress contender for “Into The Woods” for Emily while her co-stars Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick will go for supporting.

Meryl Streep will be run in Supporting, not lead, while Emily Blunt will be the lead actress contender for Into the Woods, a rep from Disney confirmed. Sometimes the “category confusion” as my friend Nat calls it can lead to odd happenings when the award nominations come down. It happens sometimes as voters (Academy or SAG) are not required to put any actor in any category. They do what they want. But much of the time, if it’s done early enough, ducks get put in a row and things line up as expected, especially lately with so much publicity around the Oscars now.

In this case, both Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick will be in supporting for Into the Woods, which could also be in line for a SAG ensemble nod given the talent involved.

Emily does ALS #IceBucketChallenge

Emily’s husband John Krasinski challenged Emily to complete the ALS #IceBucketChallenge and Emily completed the challenge the next day. You have probably heard about the challenge by now since it’s taking (social) media by storm but for more information about the challenge and find out how to donate be sure to head over to alsa.org!

Emily challenged Stephen Merchant and he also completed his challenge.

If there’s one thing above all others that is at the core of Emily Blunt, it’s her family.

There’s her infant daughter, Hazel, currently in Boston with dad John Krasinski, Blunt’s husband since 2010. Mom and daughter have only been apart a day, but, says Blunt, “It’s hard the first time. It’s strange. She’s always with me. She’s ridiculously cute. It really is the best thing. Everyone says that it is, and it is.”

First “Into The Woods” Trailer

Disney released the very first trailer of “Into The Woods“. You can watch it below or at Apple.com. We have added the high definition screen captures in our gallery.

Starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine, “Into the Woods” is a humorous and heartfelt musical that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

First “Into The Woods” Still

Disney released a bunch of new production stills of “Into the Woods” including the first still of Emily (as The Baker’s Wife) and her co-star James Corden (as The Baker). We have added the still with Emily in our gallery but be sure to head over to Disney to see the rest!

Into the Woods is an unfamiliar take on our favorite fairy tales, and is based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim (a member of our editorial team once played a tree in a production of the show, so we’re extra excited for this movie). The film comes to theaters December 25.

Kristen Bell wants to work with Emily

Actress Kristen Bell talked to Celebuzz and she revealed she wants to work with Emily.

CB: You’ve worked with so many amazing actors throughout your career, but is there someone you still dream about working with?

KB: Yeah so many people! One of the luckiest things about being in this career is that creative people generally tend to be a lot of fun to be around. I’ve made so many wonderful friends in the business that I still have yet to work with. Like Emily Blunt, I would love to work with Emily Blunt, she’s a very dear friend. So the day we find a project that we both get cast in would be a dream.

CB: You would be the perfect comedy duo, you both are hilarious and amazing actors!

KB: It would be so, so much fun for me.
